Meet Our Team

The staff at MLM is a dedicated group of equestrian experts who are here to serve riders, parents and horse owners. Our team consists of a head dressage coach, head jumper coach, junior instructors, farm management team, and equine professionals. All of our instructors are First Aid certified.




Wylda comes to MLM with a lifetime of horse experience. A 5th generation horse woman, she was born and raised at a training stables in Arizona and on a working commercial cattle ranch. With vast experience in both western and english training techniques, she has focused her career on classical and modern horse training, and has earned a degree in Animal Science from Washington State University. Wylda's training and competitive  journey has taken her to the US, Germany, Canada, and Holland, where she has studied with some of the most famous and knowledgeable horsemen of our time: Christolot Boylen, Hubertus Schmidt, Edward Gal, Kristoff v. Dahner, Thomas Ritter, Mac Cone, Will Simpson, Albrecht Heidemann, Antonio DuVale, and many others.

She has numerous local, state, provincial, national championships from the lower levels up to the FEI levels. She has coached many riders to the FEI levels of dressage, prepared riders for the hunter/jumper rings for the flat work and maintains a vast network of colleagues and riders from the US, Canada and Europe. 

She lived and trained in Germany for 3 years and recently returned to focus her attention to the development of  the education program at MLM and to foster the growth and advancement of her clients and teaching staff.

Wylda is active in physical fitness and continuing her growth in her personal riding. She rides daily and will compete in the International ring at the FEI levels on her current horses. 


Artistic Performance Coach

Classical singer/mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Turnbull, hailed by the critics as ‘a revelation’, with ‘controlled passion, acute timing and glistening presence’ has many and varied credits including appearances with major orchestras and opera companies across North America and Europe.  Her operatic roles range from the baroque to the modern era, and also include premieres of newly written vocal works.   Concert experience has included traditional oratorio and song repertoire, as well as numerous new music compositions.  

In addition to being Director of Opera Workshop, Beth has been an instructor of voice at the Department of Music at the University of Alberta since 2009. She is in demand as a vocal pedagogue at summer vocal programs, and has been a vocal clinician at numerous universities and schools for both solo and ensemble singing, as well as an adjudicator at music festivals across the country.

Professional recordings include 3 CDs with Toronto's Bach Consort, two recordings with the Ukrainian Art Song Project (songs of Lysenko and Stepovyi), as well as a self-produced disc of Irish and Scottish Songs, entitled ‘The Meeting of the Waters’. Many of her Canadian operatic performances have been heard across the country on CBC's ‘Saturday Afternoon at the Opera’.

When not singing and teaching, Beth is an avid amateur equestrian, and enjoys pursuing the sport of dressage.




Education Program Coordinator

Sonja is proud to be our Education Program Coordinator and Instructor at Maple Leaf Meadows. She graduated with distinction from the Concordia University of Edmonton Bachelor of Management program, with a focus on Accounting and Leadership, and was the recipient of the David Neeland’s Scholarship from the Saint John’s Legacy Foundation.

In her over 14 years of riding experience, Sonja has progressed from a lesson assistant to an instructional role, teaching in the Learn to Ride and Pre Academy Programs for the past year. Over the last 5 years, she has ridden in the Academy program at Maple Leaf Meadows, under the mentorship of Wylda Kristel.

Sonja has a strong focus in hunter/jumpers, having competed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and HIITS Thermal, and up to the 1.10M Jumpers at Rocky Mountain Show Jumping. Other equine experience includes working as a professional groom for international show jumpers at Spruce Meadows and HIITS Thermal

In her spare time, Sonja is also passionate about recreational football and fitness events, yoga and hiking. 







Stable Manager

Joe comes to us with a background in racing and generations of horse experience and knowledge. He is a great asset to us here at MLM. He is kind and caring towards the horses and provides quality care for all the horses boarded here at Maple Leaf Meadows.
